Phase 2 of my green patio urban gardening project began today! In other words, the sun is out, temperatures are above freezing and the soil is workable. I took advantage of my day off to plant some lettuce and snow peas outdoors. I discovered that I have a resident worm living in my lettuce planter—I do not know how or when it got there, but welcome, worm!

I constructed a teepee with bamboo poles to support the peas. image

A few of my containers that had spent winter outdoors were in a shady spot, so the soil in them was still quite hard. I placed them in a sunnier location, and I should be ready to plant radishes at the end of the week.

I did more work indoors too. Some tomato seedlings were getting too big for the itty bitty goblets they were in, so I moved them to pots where they would be comfortable until I begin moving them outdoors. The sunniest windowsill in the apartment is getting quite crowded [pictured below, approx. one third of the seedlings I have at this time!]image
